The European Commission’s CORDIS platform has recently published a feature article highlighting the results and impact of the BIOVEXO project, including insights from our project manager, Francine Martin. The article presents the project’s key achievements and explores how innovative, bio-based solutions can help address one of the most pressing challenges facing Mediterranean agriculture.
BIOVEXO focused on combating Xylella fastidiosa, a plant pathogen that has devastated olive and almond orchards across Southern Europe, causing major economic and environmental damage. The project developed and tested a portfolio of biological solutionsbased on natural compounds such as beneficial bacteria, plant extracts and fungi, aimed at reducing reliance on chemical pesticides while protecting crop health.
Bringing together partners from academia, industry and the agricultural sector, BIOVEXO demonstrated these solutions under real farming conditions in Italy and Spain. Through integrated pest management approaches, the project contributed to improving effectiveness and long-term sustainability of plant protection strategies.
BIOVEXO represents an important step towards environmentally friendly crop protection solutions and more resilient agricultural systems.
